Review of Mafia: Definitive Edition(PC, Xbox One, PS4)

Hey, guys! this time we revisit the city of Lost Haven, IL for a  nostalgia-fueled crime spree can Greig have the acumen to take control of the city or will he be ending up in prison or worse. Death Row?

Let's find out!

(Best enjoyed with headphones on!)

This particular entry of the series was originally released was released in 2002 for the PC. It was later ported to the PS2 and the Xbox in 2004. This game is set in the later inter-war years(the time between |World War 1 and 2) and is set in the fictional city of  Lost Haven Illinois

FUN FACT: did you know that is making a reference to ironically enough, the Mafia during that time? The car that the Mafia used was the Lost Haven Courier

You play as Tommy Angelo, a taxi driver who is caught in a gang war between  the Salieri and Morello families as you complete various missions  in the story that seems to be straight from the Godfather(in a good way though!)

The accessibility scores are as follows:-

Visibility 9.5

This game has no colourblind mode, but there is little need for one, unlike Grand Theft Auto, the route to the next objective is all in one colour. A player with a visual impairment will be able to play this game with no issues

Audibility 10

There are subtitles which can be enabled via the  " game" section of the options menu.  So a hearing-impaired player can understand what's being said as the game progresses.

Mobility 8.5

When using a keyboard and mouse the keys can be customized to suit your impairments. There is controller support for the game. But here's where the criticisms lie- there are only two layout options available. A step in the right direction, but more layouts would be better when playing with a  mobility impairment.

Gameplay 9

This does not have any sandbox elements, like GTA in its gameplay. Yes, there is free ride mode that allows you to explore Lost Haven at your own pace. This gives a linear feeling to the story. This game was released in 2004. Three years after GTA3 released(or one year if you are counting the PC version) which set the standard for sandbox-style games.

But the story is very engaging. But when the story is over, there's nothing to keep you playing except for freeride mode. So a little extras content would be better to maker the upgrade more worthwhile. Not just better graphics and higher resolutions!

In summary, Mafia: Definitive Edition is a  great blast from the past. I couldn't wait to revisit one of my favourite games to play before my accident. If you are thinking on picking this game up, best to for the trilogy which includes both the second and third entries in the franchise.

OVERALL SCORE- 92.5%

|See you guys in the next review,

SpartanCommander1990 out!

Roll out, Spartan Company!

By the way, guys, if you encounter issues launching this game on PC here's what I did to fix it! The procedure may vary by platform

The issue is not with the game, but the launcher!

so: right-click Mafia DE on your library> Browse local files then run the game via its exe file.

When you're in the menu, go to options>game> then set disable launcher to  "On". This should allow the game to be started from Steam
