Review of Goldeneye 64(N64)

Hi everyone! I am back in R-Cade. To hype us up fo Halo Combat Evolved: Anniversary coming to the Master Chief Collection,  I have decided to review this classic

Can Androo infiltrate the facility? or will he end up in a gulag?

Let's find out!

(best enjoyed with headphones on!)

The 007 series of films was MGM's license to print money(and kill!) in the late 90s.

When the N64 was released back in 1997, Nintendo's UK-based development studio, Rare developed this game. before this game was released, there was a stereotype. FPS games were supposed to be, exclusively on PC! the KeyBoard and Mouse controls are designed for it! there was no controller suitable to handle this game Quake, blah, blah, blah! Doom blah, blah, blah!

Well, like Halo Wars,  Goldeneye took that stereotype and proved us all wrong! FPS on a console is a thing! Seriously, if Goldeneye were not to be developed, Halo: CE would not be a thing!

This game follows the events of the 1995 film. The world is on the brink of World War 3 as Russia and the USA competed against each other to become the wold's biggest superpower after the fall of Berlin in 1945. You have been deployed to Sevranaya whish Sean Bea-err Trevelyan to investigate possible capabilities of chemical warfare by a rogue Soviet general. The mission kinda went sour, and Trevelyan got killed! It is up to you and Natalya to uncover what is going on!

The accessibility scores are as follows

Visibility 10
There are no colour-coded elements that can cause issues for colourblind players.

Audibility 10
All dialogue is text-based so imagination fills in the gaps.

Mobility 10
This, my freinds is what the "Legacy" layout is based on! you use the analogue stick to move and turn. The C-buttons strafes and looks up and down. There are also multiple button layouts to match!

When playing this game on original  N64 hardware, the controller was so much easier to hold as the controller's design works well with it!

Gameplay 10
As you might have summarised, this game shows the world that First-Person Shooters can work with a console/controller. This game slightly remixes the WolfenDoom formulae. Instead of running through the levels, getting to the exit alive, You have to complete mission objectives. For example, destroying objects in the level or interacting a certain object in the level then get to the exit alive.

What makes this unique from the others is that when you complete the game in 00 Agent difficulty, you unlock two extra missions- Egyptian and   Aztec, so there's a lot of replayability!

In summary, Goldeneye 64 is FPS on console done right. The multiplayer element of this game is a lot of fun to play. Gameplay-wise, everything just works. The draw distance is a great way for Rare to take advantage of the N64's limited hardware capabilities. The N64's controller design makes this game a lot of fun to play.

 OVERALL SCORE 100%
