RISE OF XI EP3- REVENGE OF THE BATTLEGROUNDS- review of Galactic Battlegrounds(PC)

Hey everyone! we are 5 weeks away from the Rise of Skywalker. This week I review one of my favourite Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games I've ever played. Do the scores live up to this accolade?

Let's find out!

First off, we understand that Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition releases on the 14th  November. But fear not Age fans! A review of it should be next week's review!

Anyway, let's get on with this review.

second thing to note is that we are using the game's unofficial patch, Expanding fronts to test this game.  we'll expand on that later. This can be downloaded for free here: https://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-galactic-battlegrounds-expanding-fronts

This game takes place during the events of the prequel trilogy (1-3) and the Original Trilogy(4-6). You pick a faction from the movies(excluding the First Order and Resistance, for obvious reasons). From the Wookies to the Gungans(mesa called Jar Jar Binks). The Empire to the Rebel Alliance, and lead it to galactic dominance

The accessibility scores are as follows:

Visibility  7
There is an option to change the colour of the uniform of each unit wears by enabling friend or foe colours. This changes your units to blue, allied units to yellow, and enemy units to red. We've said this time and time again red and green are not the hardest hit, it needs addressing nonetheless.

Audibility 8
Dialogue is subtitled during missions and cutscenes. So you can understand what's being said. If other events like your forces or a structure come under attack, a warning message should appear on-screen, so you should be able to keep on top what's going on in the battlefield. The expanding Fronts mod

has an option to enable enlarged text and the menus, briefings and missions. This allows you to enjoy this game about the risk of having any eyestrain. So, you should be able to play this game with little to no issues

Mobility 7
As par for the course, this game is primarily controlled using the mice. There is a hotkey system(for the Koreans). But, these hotkeys are not redefinable.

To make matters worse, these hotkeys are not shown when a building or command is being hovered over by your mice pointer. So, you would most likely be stuck using the mouse. (gee, maybe – why Emperor Palpatine gave the infamous Order 66 to the clones!)

Gameplay 7
This game feels like a re-skin of the highly successful age of empires two, as a matter fact LucasArts used the exact same engine! So, this game does not score highly in the originality department.

On the other hand, this game is actually very good! This game has the Clone Campaigns Expansion which adds to additional campaigns and two additional civilizations to play as. There is plenty of campaigns to play through, civilizations to command and battles to fight to keep you playing for a while.

In terms of the multiplayer, the official MSN servers the game used to have has been shut down a decade ago. On the other hand, you can still play this game online via Game Ranger and Vlooby, which has kept multiplayer aspects of classic games running years after the official servers shut down!

In summary, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds Saga lacks originality, as it uses the exact same engine as Age of Empires 2, but as I said earlier this game is very fun to play. The Expanding Fronts Mod adds the Zann Consortium from Forces of Corruption.

The game itself is not demanding system requirements wise, so it's very laptop friendly. Also, this game is very cheap to buy on Steam and GOG. If you're looking for an RTS game to play to get you hyped up for the Rise of Skywalker but your budget is tight due to Christmas, with the presents, decorations, and meals for your guests, you get the picture. This game is a very good purchase and this will keep you entertained till after new year, let alone the release date of the film!

OVERALL SCORE 72.5%

See you guys in the next review
