FACE OFF- DEATH RACE

It's been two years since the last time... Today, November 5th... we're bringing it back!

ladies and gentlemen welcome to face-off, a comparison review series which pits two games, head-to-head.

The last time OverWatch almost mopped the floor with

The battle location- Terminal Island, located in Long Beach, Los Angeles.

This time we pit the latest entry series of Sonic racing games, Team Sonic Racing, against a  PlayStation classic remastered- Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

Place your bets!

LET'S FACE OFF!

(REMINDER- best enjoyed with Headphones on!)

2019 has been the year of the kart racer.  For example, we've had GRIP, a reboot of Rollcage. This year, two racers stood out- Team Sonic Racing and CTR. We will be using the Xbox One versions to test both games.

In CTR, Nitrous Oxide, the fastest driver in the galaxy has challenged Earth 's best racer in an effort to conquer the Earth, turn it to a parking lot! In response to this, the two voodoo masks Aku-Aku and Uka-Uka summoned a host of heroes and villans to a racing tournament. In this game, it's the Survival of the Fastest!.

In TSR an alien Tanuki called Dodon Pa has organised a racing tournament to test out his patented technology with a prize for the winning team. Sonic and his buddies are invited, Dr Eggman also entered to claim the technology for himself. It is up to you to go from location to location, win the tournament and put a spanner in the works on Eggman's scheme.

The accessibility scores are as follows:

Visibility

TSR 9.5

There are no colourblind modes in this game, but there are no issues that will cause issues for colourblind players. You can customise the colour and looks of your car with mod kits. But they have to be unlocked

Each weapon has it's own unique icons and the team's standings are represented by icons, so it might not be the best, but it's playable nonetheless.

CTR 10

Like TSR, there are no colourblind modes.  But this game has a little more customisation options than TSR. You can apply skins to your character. You can customise which kart type, wheel type, what colour of car or wheels you hit the track with. This is just as good as a colourblind mode. The only criticism I'd give is all that is unlockable, so you'll have to grind for them.

and CTR slips ahead with a 1 category, 0.5 point-lead

Audibility

CTR 10

In the story and cutscenes, all dialogue is subtitled. So you can understand what's going on. Unlike TSR the in-race dialogue is not subtitled. With this game's every driver for himself-style of gameplay. It would feel unnecessary. It's a remaster of a decade-old game we're talking about here!

TSR 11

The in-race dialogue is subtitled, same with cutscenes. So you can understand what each character is saying. With this particular game's focus on teamwork, this is vital, otherwise, this would be unplayable.

TSR fights back with an equalizer, but it has the 0.5 point advantage CTR  had in the last category

Mobility

CTR 6

There are redefinable controls in this game. But there are only two! So you'll be forced to use the Xbox Accessories app

TSR6

This game is no better either, same as CTR, there are only two layouts to choose from.

so, this category ends in a stalemate, no change in scores.

Gameplay

CTR10

This game is constantly updated adding more and more unlockable content as time goes on. So there's a load orf replay. This game retains the classic-style charm Of the kart racing sub-genre.

TSR 4

This game is in no way a successor to Sonic Racing Transformed!

In short, Sega tried to fix what ain't broke! The teamwork Mechanic feels unnecessary. In most kart racing games, it's every man for himself. Say, for example, if you can be near the bottom half of the race, nut you teammates finish in the top 2, you can still finish in first!

Sega his yet to add any new content to the game, so lifespan is limited at best, the challenges in the story mode is tedious as you try and try again to get that medal.

in the end, Crash Team Racing powers ahead with one category, 5.5 lead

CTR wins

See you guys in the next review
