DGR Halloween Special- Review of Bioshock ( Xbox, PS4, PC)

Happy Haloween everyone! This year I decided to revisit my childhood fears by reviewing a game by the studio behind  System shock 2. Can this game score highly this year?

Let's find out!

(this narration is best with headphones on)

There has been a cryptic message in a blog update and the narration of our previous review of Jedi Academy hidden in Mose Code

Here it is in written form .-- --- ..- .-.. -.. / -.-- --- ..- / -.- .. -. -.. .-.. -.-- / .-. . ...- .. . .-- / -... .. --- ... .... --- -.-. -.- ..--..

decoded it yet? the message reads "Would you kindly review Bioshock?"

Anyway, Let's get on with this.

When I was 5 or 6 System Shock scared me. Every time I hear a synthesized voice, I immediately thought of the game's antagonist, Shodan. For more info on that read my review here: https://disabledgame.blogspot.com/2015/10/dgr-halloween-special-review-of-system.html

.

Originally released in 2007 for the Xbox 360, PS3, then remastered to the current generation of hardware in 2016, this particular game is set n the year 1960. You play as Jack. Your plane just crashed in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Youn finds a mysterious underwater city called Rapture. (we interrupt this  Bioshock review to bring you Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace *DING*). A city with no boundaries by the government nor morality. Founded by Andrew Ryan In this city, scientists have discovered a new gene called ADAM.

ADAM allows the user to use magical abilities like casting lightning. (Star Wars the Force cliche *DING* ). It is up to you to discover the secrets of Rapture, take down Andrew Ryan and return to the surface world. The accessibility scores are as follows:

Visibility 9

Usable elements such as switches ard items that can be picked up are highlighted, indicating that it can be used or picked up. But the health and ADAM bars are red and blue respectively.  As I said time, and time again. Red and green may not be the hardest hit, but it still needs addressing nonetheless!

Audibility 10
There are ion-game subtitles present, so you can understand what's being said as the story progresses

Mobility 7
You can change the controls with a keyboard and mouse, and there is a controller option, but the controller controls can't be customized at all. So it's best to get the PC version.

Gameplay 8
This is a great successor to System Shock 2. The cyborgs and mutants in Citadel Station are replaced by Splicers. People who were driven insane by a large exposure to ADAM, who has killed most of the sane population of Rapture.  the little sisters are defenceless NPCs (Non-Player Characters) which can be either harvested for ADAM or saved. This idea of choice adds a feeling of morality to the game. Big Daddy's are their bodyguards. They are armed with Rivet Guns and big drills for melee combat. They are armoured with diving suits, so best of luck trying to take them out! This game, however, lacks the scare factor of the System Shock Series. So I'd recommend Outlast, or |Silent Hill if you are looking for the spooky stuff!

In Summary, Bioshock may not the best choice if you are looking to get yourself scared witless. But for a successor to the legendary System Shock 2, this is the game for you.

OVERALL SCORE 85%
