Review of Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer (N64, PC)

Hey everyone! I'm in R-Cade to serve up some good ol nostalgia for you guys like Gzoya in this very café (which, admittedly, I have not tried!)

This time, the staff has selected this game. So can Sam beat Sebulba and take 1st place and the fabuluous 700 trugget prize?

Press "Read More to start the race.

The year is 1999.  The USA was under the leadership of Bill Clinton. Pokémon fever grips the entire world. The data phenomenon known as "Y2K" caused a stir in the computing world and South Park released the first movie, Bigger, Longer & Uncut. Sega's final foray in the console market, the Dreamcast got released.
This game also got released on Nintendo's flagship N64 console.
This game is based on the famous Pod Racing scene from Episode 1: the Phantom Menace, which featured "that"annoying Gungan. You pick a racer from a variety of characters, from the film like the cheating lowlife, Sebulba. and the up-and-coming racer, and soon to be Sith bad@$$ Anakin  Skywalker and enter the Intergalactic Pod Racing Season. You then engage in fast paced, in-your-face, no holds barred racing tournaments as you climb through the ranks and become the champion.

The accessibility scores are as follows.

Visibility 10
This game needs no colourblind mode as  there is no colour-coded elements that can cause an issue for colourblind players.

Audibility 10
There is no real story in this game so there is no need for subtitles. when  you pod is critically damaged a waning should be displayed on the  status diagram located on the bottom-right of the screen. Black smoke should also be emitting from your engine. So you should be OK with this game.

Mobility 2
First off, the PC version scores an easy 11 as there's game pad support and remappable controls. The Xbox One Controller works like a charm.

But the N64 version(which we used to test) this is the bipolar opposite. The N64 controller is simply  too large, and the controls are not remappable so, if you wanted to jump into  this game, best to stick with PC.

Gameplay 8
This game has a very destinct WipEout/ F-Zero vibe to it. The amount of tracks is pretty decent, with the memory limitations of the N64. But the game gets tedious after a few races. The advantage of  the N64 version is that it has split-screen support. The PC version has  a faster frame rate With an expansion Pak, you can make the graphics look just as good as the PC version.

In summary,Star Wars Episode 1: Racer is a decent game on the N64. With the PC port available on Steam and GOG pretty cheap, this could be a good game to purchase when saving up for the festive season, with presents, food decorations. You get  the picture.

OVERALL SCORE 75%

See you guys in the next review!
