Now I'm the king of the swingers, the jungle V.I.P
I reached the top and had to stop
And that's what bothers me
Welcome back to the Summer of Game Pass, this time, we go back to the NeoGeo days for some Old-school beat 'em up action.
Can SNK beat Toby Fox and Deep Silver?, or should CRSnake give up now?
Let's find out!
(just a reminder these narrations are best enjoyed with headphones on)
Right Fraser, your turn!
As soon as Fraser "CRSnake" West found out I got Game Pass, he wanted me to review this game. Weeks and weeks of attempts to make me review this game went on, as you can tell, all of them were to no avail. I decided to give him his share of the limelight. After all, concentrating on more recent releases is all good, but from time to time, you need some good ol' nostalgia to reminisce on those days where games were complete from the disc, without DLC, Loot Boxes, and additional content was unlocked with skill.
Again, good times, guys!
In this game, you pick a team of three fighters from a roster of 45 different characters and enter the prestigious King of Fighters tournament to find the word's best martial Artist(shout-out to Fraser for the info!). The accessibility scores are as follows:
Visibility 9.5
This game needs no colourblind mode, but colour customisation options would be great. close, but not good enough for that 10!
Audibility 10
There are no English subtitles, but there is little need for one. As there is as much dialogue as the classic Street Fighter series. So no major issues there,
Mobility 11
The controls in this game can be fully customised, so you can alter the button layouts to suit your taste. This is very accessible for a player who uses a standard Xbox Controller or a fight stick. Each to their own, I guess.
Gameplay 9.5
First off, this game has very little in the way of Single-player content. But it's still a good way to relive those good ol' days when we perpetually wasted our 50 pence coins in the Arcades. With Xbox Live Multiplayer enabled, you can go whoop your buddies online. This game is what the customizable fighter game for the PC MUGEN was based on. With this game being on Game Pass, it would be criminal not to give this game a try! Just careful not to throw your controller in rage when you face Rugal Berstein. Fair warning he'll absolutely annihilate you!
In summary, King of Fighters 98 is one of CRSnake's favourite fighting games of all time. It's easy to see why. This is SNK at it's finest. Although the lack of single-player content hurts. But with multiplayer over Xbox Live, this game could be a great purchase if you are into classic fighting games.
OVERALL SCORE- 100%
A great score, a higher one than Metro, but not enough to beat Surviving Mars/Undertale!
