Review of Black Mesa(PC)

Hey everyone, this time, we're taking a break from the Summer of Game Pass, and with the release date of Final Fantasy 7 Remake looming, I thought it would be appropriate I should review a remake of one of the PC's most beloved franchises? Can Gil escape the research facility intact?

Let's find out!

(just a reminder these narrations are best enjoyed with headphones on)

Half-Life is hailed by many PC players as one of the best games ever made. It's been 12 years since an official game was released in this critically acclaimed series. Now any hopes of closure to the Half-Life games are Project Borealis and Borreal Alyph.

A group of dedicated Half-Life fans have spent years of work on this game. They are known as the Crowbar Collective, named after the characteristic melee weapon in the game.

You play as Gordon Freeman an employee of the Black Mesa Research corporation, who is in direct competition to Cave Johnstone's Aperture Science Corporation.  Recently Black Mesa has been experimenting with teleportation technology. Well... Your experiment went horribly wrong.  Your failed experiment opened a portal between Earth and Xen. This is known as the resonance Cascade or the Black Mesa Incident, it is up to you to sort this mess out!

The accessibility scores are as follows:

Visibility 10
There is no need for a colourblind mode as there are no colour-coded elements that could cause an issue for colourblind players.

Audibility 10
In terms of this category,  this is the most accessible Half-Life remake to date. Unlike the GoldSrc and Half-Life Source versions, this game has subtitles. So if you are looking for a version of the original Half-Life to get an understanding of how the Half-Life story begins. This is the game you are waiting for.

Mobility 10.5
You can define the controls on the keyboard and mouse. There is gamepad support. You can customise the button layouts too. But no official legacy layout is present in this game

Gameplay 11
This game is probably the best version of the original Half-Life.

It looks so good graphically, you won't realise you are essentially playing a game from 1998! Seriously, the levels have been expanded, the engine allows the graphics to be enhanced to 2018 standards. It feels like you are playing an entirely new game. This game is well worth the constant delays this game has had. Seriously, at least it's development cycle is not longer than Dune Nukem Forever's The Xen chapters are releasing in Public Beta on 1st August 2019. The first two levels of the Xen Chapters are out now in Public Beta.

As I said earlier, this game is the best version of the Original Half-Life out there. With all aspects of the game reworked completely, it feels like a whole new game entirely.

If you are a fan of the Half-Life games, I can't recommend this game enough to you.

OVERALL SCORE 103.75%

AGGONISINGLY CLOSE TO BEATING UNDERTALE/SURVIVING MARS!

Will the next game review dethrone the two kings of the Summer?
