SUMMER OF GAME PASS PART 3- UNDERHILL AND OVERHILL (revisiting Undertale PC, PS4, Switch)

Hey everyone! Welcome back to the Summer of Game Pass, today I redo my previous review on a classic  Indie RPG and one of my favourite games of all time. Can this game beat Surviving Mars'  105% score?

Let's find out!

(just a reminder these narrations are best enjoyed with headphones on)

When I found out Undertale is on Game Pass, I decided to repost this game, with narrations. Although I came up with the idea originally the DGR community thought it was a good idea.

Before we kick this off I would like to get a few things out the way-

  • First off, this game is not eligible for awards, apart from Game of the Summer, as it won the Satoru Iwata Memorial Award, back in 2016.

  • The original review post, posted on 06/06/2016 will be deleted by the time this post goes live. The only major change going on is this narration

  • The scores have been updated, but this is mostly stuff I've written on the original post.
  • Think this post as the DGR  equivalent of Modern Warfare: Remastered. But you don't have to pay  $80 for a special edition to gain access!

This game takes place after a war between Humans and Monsters. When the monsters were defeated, they were banished underground.

your character falls to the underground ( Metro cliche *DING*) inhabited by monsters(Kindergarten Cop cliche *DING*).You have to find a way back up, battling the minions of ASGORE, King of the Monsters along the way. The accessibility scores are as follows

Visibility 10

There's no need for a colourblind mode as when an enemy attacks you, your heart will have to dodge the various objects that appear. Don't move it when it's dim, dodge if its solid colour. So the colour scheme is suitable enough for colourblind players.

Mobility 11

You can play using a keyboard or a controller! Plus the buttons can be defined! an epic win for accessibility in this category. But the use of a controller is recommended.

Audibility  10

There's no spoken dialogue in this game. It's just random noises, which is looped every time a  text character appears on the subtitles, so you can understand what's being said. So hearing-impaired players can easily understand what's going on!

Gameplay 11
This game is based on Segato Itoi's 1994 SNES game, Earthbound. Gotta give credit to Toby, this game remains faithful to that.

Oh sure it may be no Mass Effect killer graphically, but for an indie title, its a surprisingly good game!

It's basically the perfect blend of both modern AND  classic RPGs! Your actions in the game determine which path you take, if you act the right way, and spare the monsters, you'll go down the pacifist route! or if you kill all enemies you encounter in your path, you'll go down the genocide route. This adds a unique feeling of morality in the game, which is really immersive.

The way the game goes depends on what you do in the game, similar to Mass Effect (Paragon/Renegade), so there's enough incentive for you to keep replaying this game, so there are tonnes of lifespan, and the soundtrack really draws you in! No wonder why it's so popular! This is the best indie title I've ever played, and the best thing to come out of crowdfunding..... PERIOD! Looking back at it now still is!

OVERALL SCORE 105%

Ladies and Gentlemen,  we have a tie for the Game of Summer 2019!
