Review of Mass Effect Andromeda(PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Hey everyone! Today I review the latest addition to the Mass Effect Series. Does this game live up to the standards of its predecessors?

Let's find out!

just a reminder these narrations are best enjoyed with headphones on)

The Mass Effect series has been highly regarded as one of the best games in the WRPG (Western Role Playing Game) Sub-Genre. This game's development cycle  was long and drawn out, with delays spanning over a year (after Mass Effect 3's ending, wouldn't blame em!)

This game takes place after the Original Trilogy. We've been at war with a cybernetic race called "The Reapers". The reapers have destroyed most of our galaxy, the Milky Way, so we turned to our neighbouring Andromeda Galaxy to forge a new chapter for Humanity. But the previous inhabitants, the Kett are not-so-friendly. You play as Ryder, a Pathfinder, who has been selected to scout planets in an effort to find the perfect spot for colonisation.

The accessibility scores are as follows:
VERSION TESTED-PC

Visibility 10
The colour scheme used in this game is colour-blind friendly by default. So you can play this game with no issues.

Audibility 10
There are in-game subtitles, so you can understand what's being said, which is important in a dialogue-heavy game.

Mobility 7
The controls on the PC version can be refined, so you can refine the control scheme to suit your taste. But no legacy stick layout is present when playing with a controller, so you'll be stuck with keyboard and mouse when playing this game. But numerous button layouts are present, so only minor issues exist.

Gameplay 6

Bioware basically, took what's good about Mass Effect and threw it away. Firstly, the choices you make in the previous games do not carry over to Andromeda. One of the best features of the Mass Effect series is that the save file you had in the previous games can get imported and the choices you make matters in this game and the next. In this game, your choices as Shepard was not even mentioned during this game.  so, as Rafiki would put it

"Oh yes, the past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it or... learn from it."

Thanks, Rafiki! Oh wait, it's EA we're talking about here, they never learn from their mistakes!

Bioware decided to ditch the engine they had in previous games and used EA's in-house Frostbyte Engine, which seemed to have issues in terms of optimisation. But not much has changed in terms of Gameplay.

In summary,  Mass Effect Andromeda is a decent WRPG,  I'd still say the Original Trilogy is better. At least a little continuity of the plot would be nice, Bioware tried to fix what ain't broke. and the gameplay suffered because of that.

OVERALL SCORE 82.5%
