Review of Prospekt (PC)

Hey everyone. To close this Sci-Fi season I review the sequel to Half-Life Opposing Force. Can Adrian Shepard claim the Fulgore Award? or will the Combine take him down in the attempt?

Let's find out!

It's been well over a decade since we had an official Half-Life game from Valve...

There have been quite a few fan-made projects such as  Half-Life the Closure, which was.. pretty bad, and Lambda Wars which is actually, pretty decent!

But shortly after Valve's biggest "middle finger" to its fans when Artifact,  the Dota cash-in on  Blizzard's highly successful online TCG (Collectible Card Game), Hearthstone's popularity got announced. Former Half-Life scriptwriter, Marc Laidlaw pretty much divulged Half-Life 3's plot on his blog, on a post called "Epistle 3".

With the plot out in the open, more fan recreations of Episode 3 such as "Project Borealis", now developed in Unreal Engine 4, instead of Source 2 is in development. In my opinion, using UE4  is quite a bold move. Here's why. Since the first game, back in  1998, Valve's in-house game engines were used. Seriously, you wouldn't use IdTech 3 for an Unreal Tournament-type game. *looks at Quake 3*  actually, never mind!

But this game is not even close to an  Episode 3.

This game is, in fact, the sequel to Opposing Force, an expansion to the Original Half-Life. This game takes place during the events of Half-Life 2, Eli Vance, the leader of the resistance has been captured during a raid on Black Mesa East. Our main man, Gordon Freeman is on the way to Nova Prospekt to sping him out. Your job- sabotageCombine presence in the prison helping the One Free Man to save Eli!

The accessibility scores are as follows-

Visibility 9
There is no colourblind mode, but to be fair, there is no need for one as there are no colour-coded elements in this game.

Audibility 11
In-game subtitles are present so you can understand what's being said. Closed captions can also be enabled.

Mobility 9.5
You can redefine the controls can be redefined via the options menu. But the lack of controller support stops it just short from scoring a perfect 10.

Gameplay 10
Do you know the old saying "give "give a thousand monkeys typewriters and they will produce Shakespeare?" Well, this is one of the cases that back this old saying. This game was developed by a single man.

For a one-man job, this game is pretty decent! The story is very good. What you'd expect for a Source Engine game. In its current state, this game  has a load of polish. So this game will keep you playing until Project Borealis comes into fruition. Just avoid Hunt down the Freeman!

     OVERALL SCORE:98.5%

See you guys in the next review
