Review of Star Wars: Dark Forces 2 (PC)

Hey everyone! Today I review the second entry to the  Dark Forces series. Can Kyle Katarn accomplish the Resist-err Rebel mission to retrieve the Satoru Iwata Memorial Award? or will the Sith hunt him down in the act? Let's find out!

In 1993, Id software released Doom, this game received more than it's fair share of controversies. Overall productivity in the workplace dipped due to people playing Doom. So much so, the Id Software offices had to change their working routine which had a specific time of day to take a break to play it. That's just scratching the surface.

Due to the game's commercial success, numerous clones have surfaced on the market. In 1995 Lucas Arts released such a game, Dark Forces for the PC,  a port of this game to the Sony PlayStation was released a year later. In 1997 a sequel to this game was released.

Like it's predecessor, you play as the mercenary, Kyle Katarn. A Sith Knight, Jerec kills his father, Morgan Katarn,  in his search for the elusive Valley of the Jedi, which contains the Jedi Core. The wielder of this gives the user  UNNNLLIMMMIITTTEEDDDD!!!! PPOOOWWWAAAHHHH!!! (we interrupt this Dark Forces 2  review to bring you Revenge of the Sith *DING*).

It is up to you to find it before Jerec does!

The accessibility scores are as follows-

Audibility 7
There are in-game subtitles. But the same problem exists. Similar to Doom, if an enemy is alerted, a sound would play. This could be a problem for the hearing impaired as you'd have no idea that an enemy is alerted so you'd have no warning.

Visibility 9.5
There are no colourblind modes. To make matters worse they keys are colour-coded. Similar to Doom,  a  red key can open it's corresponding coloured door. To of which are red and blue.

But they are all on a purple backdrop in your inventory,  This replicates a colour-blind filter. So you can understand which keycard you have.

Mobility 11
With the  PC version, you can use a controller or the keyboard to play. Both input methods can be customized. GG LucasArts!

Gameplay 9
First off, this game is heavily plagiarised from DOOM. Your goal is to reach the level's exit alive. The levels are very linear with secrets in every level thrown into the mix.

But if you're a DOOM  enthusiast. you will find this game very familiar. You can also challenge your friends to multiplayer deathmatches over LAN, or GameRanger. TRhis adds even more lifespan to this game. This game is pretty cheap on Steam or GOG and the requirements are not too demanding.

So if you are looking for a  classic DOOM-esque game to satisfy your bloodlust till DOOM Eternal comes out, this game is recommended.

OVERALL SCORE 91.25%

See you guys in the next review!
