Review of Sonic Mania (PC, Xbox One/ENH, PS4, Switch)

Hi, everyone! This time, I review one of this year's most eagerly and hyped games. But does this game live up to the hype? Did Sega get it right this time?

Click to read more to find out!

Like I said in the introduction, this review has been highly requested by a large portion of the community. Let's go through the list shall we?

oh indeed it is, Tails! most requested review in DGR  history!

Anyway, onto the review!

The game itself was done by two fan developers, Christian Whitehead, HeadCannon, and West Pagoda Games.

In this game our two protagonists, Sonic the hedgehog and his sidekick Miles"Tails" ProwerWent into Green Hill Zone In search of Dr.Ivo-err Eggman but,As Admiral Akbar said in Star Wars – return of the Jedi.....

Eggman used the power of the Chaos emeralds to  send our two protagonists back in time (we interrupt this Sonic Mania review to bring you Sonic Generations *ding*) now, it is up to you to travel through the various levels of Sonic's past (including the bane of my existence, Chemical Plant Zone from Sonic 2) to find and defeat Eggman! The accessibility scores are as follows –

Visibility 5
Anyone but Sonic and Tails are foe, so you can play the majority of the game with no problems.

But, there's one part in the game in particular where problems can arise for visually impaired players during the very level that is guaranteed to bring my blood to the boil, Chemical Plant Zone from Sonic 2 you will be facing Dr Eggman in a mock up of the classic, Sega mega Drive (Genesis in the US) game, Dr Robitnik's mean Bean Machine. The itself is very similar to Bejeweled, the goal of thw game is to arrange blocks  into groups of the same color. Obviously, you will need to beat Eggman to proceed to the next stage. So visually impaired players will find it difficult to proceed past this particular point.

Audibility 10
this game has no spoken dialogue, therefore no subtitles are required.

As par  for the course, when sonic is drowning, a countdown from 5-1 will appear on top of Sonic's head. This should be an indication to either A- find an air bubble or B– get up to the surface before he loses a life! So, hearing-impaired players should be okay with this game.

Mobility 10
although there are a lot of reports via the Steam Forums there are issues concerning controller support for the PC version. But, during the editorial team play session, the Xbox one controller seem to have no issues when playing games straight out the bat. Controllers are not your thing, can use your keyboard to control the game.  so mobility impaired players should be able to play this game very easily as you can press either a or X to make sonic run or spin dash so you can play this game very easily.

Gameplay 10
this game shows how well Sonic works with 2D games. Sonic was extremely popular in the Genesis era, and the majority of 3-D sonic games was not very good. This shows that Sega should stick to what's working rather than trying something innovative. Sonic media and itself will probably put sonic forces to shame! With enhancements coming from Microsoft's newest console the Xbox One X, releasing in November 7.

This game should be well worth your investment. PC players beware – the PC port of Sonic Mania contains anti-tamper software which has recently been classified as malware. The software in question is known as Denuvo, which which is extremely harmful to the modding community. As the software can detect the modifications. So DGR editorial teams thoroughly recommend that you purchase the console version of sonic Mania, particularly,  the Xbox One with the enhancements coming, this is  very wise investment!

OVERALL SCORE 87.5%

see you guys in the next review!
