Review of WarHammer 40,000 Dawn of War(PC)

Hey guys! today i review the first iteration  of Relic Entertainment's Dawn of War franchise, this game is regarded a classic entry of the Dawn of War franchise, but does this game have the accessibility features to match? let's find out!

Like i said Dawn of War has been regarded as a modern classic RTS (Real-Time Strategy)  games you pick a race from a diverse roster from the Wahammer 40,00 games build a base, create , reinforce and upgrade it's weapons, manage your resources, and obliterate your enemies! the accessibility scores are as follows


Visibility-1
You can customize each army's individual color. But that color scheme is not reflected while using the mini-map. This is where the issues arise. 

Bearing in mind, that in RTS your mini-map is your best friend. It allows you to see the battlefield at a glance. This is vital in a match due to it;'s fast pace. When you are building up your base, managing your economy, an enemy player might send forces to wipe you out from the map, and this is happening all at the same time! So you need to navigate to where the action is quickly to command your troops when the fighting starts.

The issue at hand is your troops and structures are represented in green, your ally's troops and structures are represented in blue and finally, the enemy's troops and structures are represented in red. We all know how big an issue that colour contrast is while playing any game with colorblindness. To make matters worse, there's no way to change this scheme at all. This puts colorblind players at a major disadvantage as you won't be able to tell friend from foe quickly.

Audibility 10
During the game's campaigns, all dialogue from characters are subtitled both in battle and during cinematics so you can understand what's been said as the campaign progresses. When events occur like "you are losing a strategic point to an enemy!" or "your troops are under fire!" notifications will appear on the screen. Click on one, the camera snaps to where the notification's origin(not of the EA variety) is. So you can keep tabs on the battle as it progresses, despite your impairment.



Mobility 10
If you've played RTS games before, you'll feel right at home the camera can be controlled by the mouse or keyboard. The arrow keys move the camera in it's respective direction. Or you can use the mouse to do the same. If you move your cursor to the edge of the screen, the camera will move in it's respective direction. This choice evens out the battlefield for mobility impaired players. This is also  good for players who uses a trackpad for laptops.  

Another good feature of  RTS games is hotkeys. If you're a competitive StarCraft player, you know what that is. every element in the UI can be bound to certain keys on your keyboard. Professional StarCraft players know these off by heart. This also allows the player to choose between the mouse based UI or use the Hotkeys system. 

So this game is quite accessible for mobility impaired players. Not as accessible as Halo Wars, but close enough for the 10.

Gameplay 10
When you have the base game, plus all 3 expansions(Winter Assault, Dark Crusade ,SoulStorm) this game becomes MASSIVE there's over 10 races to choose from, each with their own unique game play styles.

The resource management mechanic is all about map control. There are certain key locations on the map for your infantry units to take and hold. the more locations you control, the faster you gain requisition resource. Power is generated through power generators, the more generators you construct, the faster you gain power resource. You the use these resources to build and upgrade your forces.
The squad upgrade mechanic allows you to add more units to a squad, even bring heavy weapons, like Heavy Bolters and  Flamethrowers.  These mechanics such as those  make it stand out from the rest in a very crowded genre. In my opinion, best one in the series!
