Starcraft made the RTS genre to what it is today! When it was released in 1998, it took the world by storm! (Blizzard MOBA cliche *DING*). It's influence is very dominant in Korea. FUN FACT: The Koran football(or Soccer in America) team invited professional Brood War players to inspire the team before they went into the pitch during World Cup Tournaments. Professional gamers are treated like gods in Korea. This game is leading the charge of competitive RTS!
This game picked up the story where Brood War left off. The Queen of Blades, Sarah Kerrigan and his Zerg Swarm has been rampant throughout the Kemporlu Sector.
The Protoss' homeworld (Relic Entertainment cliche *DING*) of Ior fell to the Swarm. The Terran Dominion has been divided, thanks to Commander James (nice name, bro!) Raynor who has stirred up a rebellion against the Dominion's ruler, Arcturus Mengsk, who has imposed martial law. It is up to Raynor to take the Zerg and Mengsk down. at last! a RTS game with a colourblind mode!
when this mode is enabled, via the options menu all player's color will be determined by their diplomacy towards you. your troops will be in blue, your allies' troops, regardless of race, in cyan and finally your enemies again regardless of race is in brown,so you know which base to attack and which one to protect. Accessibility in an RTS done right!
Audibility 10
This game has in-game subtitles in campaign, also in multiplayer significant events like your allies' troops or bases are under attack, a structure or unit is completed notifications will appear on the top left of the screen. Click it, the camera snaps to where the notification is! Great job Blizzard!
Mobility 10
This game is controlled with the mouse. It's simple point and click to give your troops orders plus you use the icons in the command card to train units, use abilities, construct buildings, you get the picture, you can alternatively use the hotkeys to do the same, better still they can be customized!
Gameplay 10
This game is a hell of a blast to play! if you're a seasoned RTS veteran, or new to the genre,there's plenty of ways to play, co-cooperatively against AI players or go against other commanders for some PvP action! With the new Archon Mode, with it's latest expansion, Legacy of the Void, releasing in November 10th, gives a whole new way to play- it's basically 2 players share an army and base, so teamwork is vital!
The three races play differently the Terrans prefer to attack late and with advanced units like Battlecuisers or Thors, The Protoss' units prefer to attack in numbers, and they are shielded . The Zerg prefer to attack very early in the game and in numbers for example training a lot of basic infantry (known as Zerglings) quickly and throw them all at once at their opponents' forces while they are building up. This is known as a "Zerg Rush" (type that into google, see what happens!) The campaigns are massive and it's hard to stop playing multiplayer so the fun never ends! This game is extremely accessible and i'd thoroughly recommend to everyone, hell even owning a PC and not owning this game is a sin!
