Review of Goldeneye (xbox One S/X, Switch)

hello! The names Swiftail. Swiftailk. This time, I review the remake of one of the N64's most beloved  titles. Can 007 accomplish the mission? Or will  Dio learn the cost of betrayal?

Let's find out!

The year is 1997. The United Kingdom faced  it's saddest day, and greatest loss of the 90s as Diana, Princess of Wales tragically died in a car accident in Paris, on August 31. Even today, Diana's death still is a conscientious subject when discussing scandals of the Royal family.

We were introduced into the wacky worlds of Eric Cartman, Stan Marsh, and Kenny McCormick as the world's first episode of South Park premiered on US television. The television series was arguably the most controversial show on television.

In terms of the gaming industry, 1997 was a big year. The sequel to Core Designs'biggest platforming series, Tomb Raider two released for the PlayStation, and PC. At date of scripting, and recording Tomb Raider 2 still remains one of the bestselling to in the games of the franchise.

the world's first 64 bit console, the Nintendo 64 was released in Europe For more information on the 64-bit hardware revolution, and the N64's release, please check out our review of super Mario 64.

One of the most important launch titles of this console was Goldeneye. Released the public on 23 August 1997 and developed by Battletoad's developer, Rare.

The game's plot follows the 1995 film, which was the acting debut of Irish born actor Pierce Brosnan. You play as the U.K.'s most famous secret agent as you uncover a conspiracy within the Soviet government.

Please note – this review is for the Xbox one, and Nintendo switch remaster only. The review of the original version of goldeneye is can be found here

The accessibility scores are as follows-

Visibility 8

In this game, there are no colour blind modes available. However, there are no elements in this game that coul chose an issue for a colourblind players. So, a colourblind players should be able to play this game with no issues

Audibility 10

In this remaster, and the N64 classic, there are no spoken dialogue in this game. Back in the days all dialogue was textbased. Imagination had to fill in the blanks!

Mobility 10.5

For a game that is the very first time that a stick layout called "legacy" originated from, rare has done a phenomenal job on modernising the controls.

The very valid reason as to why movement and turning was on one analog stick was because an N64 controller only had one analog stick. The C buttons wants to strafe left and right, and woke up and down (the main reason why the use Oddjob in split screen multiplayer was seen  as cheating , and the killer of a lot of friendships in the 90s.

With the Xbox one, and Nintendo switch, which has two analogue sticks built into the controller, or JoyCons, additional control layout was added to cater for people who prefer a more "dual stick" controls, similar to the majority of modern shooters.

However, the classic, legacy layout you are most probably looking for will be honey.

So, this remaster strikes the perfect balance between accessibility and familiarity.

Gameplay 8

In short, rare has done an excellent job preserving the assets, charm and appeal of the original games. The levels, music, textures, and models are all there. Every last mission.

So you can relive those days before DLC, battle passes and randomised loot boxes. Back in those days, additional content had to be unlocked with skill, not money. Good times, guys!

Onli willne multiplayer is exclusive to the Switch version. Nowadays, the majority of first person shooters has online play.

The Xbox port of perfect dark has Xbox live multiplayer. Why not this game? However, the game's characteristics split screen mode is still there. If you have four friends around your house, with their Xbox controllers, you can look them up to one single Xbox for some split screen multiplayer mayhem!

In summary, the goldeneye 007 remaster is the perfect way to experience your childhood.

As I have said in my previous review of the original goldeneye, before that game launched there was a  stereotype. FPS games was to be exclusively available on PC. The keyboard and mouse controls that a PC uses is purpose-built for the genre, as it is easy to aim when using a mouse.

The developers, however to get stereotype, per in a paper shredder, and shown the world otherwise.

Seriously, if it wasn't for goldeneye, genre defining first person shooters on console, for example Halo, and evolved, and the time splatters series would never Be a  thing. But the lack of online multiplayer the Xbox version is a major missed opportunity.

If you are looking for a nostalgia junkie, looking for a fix, this game is available at a part of the round replay collection on Xbox, which is a part of your Xbox game pass subscription. For switch owners, this game is available as a part of your Nintendo switch online expansion pack subscription.

I seriously cannot recommend this game enough to you!

OVERALL SCORE- 91.25%
