Review of Metal Gear Solid(PC, PSX)

Hi everyone! this time I review the game that put the PS1 on the map. | Do the scores here live up to Kojima's legacy? or is this game a flop like SURVIVE?

Let's find out!

(Best enjoyed with headphones on!)

The Metal Gear series has been the grandfather of the stealth game sub-genre.  The series started out as a game for the MSX2 PC in  1987. In 1990 the sequels  Snake's Revenge and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. In the 1993 Tokyo Games Show Konami announced a sequel is in active development, with legendary game designer, Hideo Kojima taking the helm. Originally planned to release on the 3DO, however, when the 3DO was discontinued, development of the game was swapped to the PlayStation. |Footage of the game itself was revealed in E3 1996 then was released to the public in 1998.

FOXHOUND, a genetically enhanced, renegade unit has taken control of a nuclear disposal facility on Shadow Moses Island located in Alaska's |Fox Archipelago and threatening to launch a nuclear attack on Washington. You play as Solid Snake, who has to infiltrate the facility, determine whether or not they have the capability to do so, and if so,  neutralise it.

The accessibility scores are as follows:-

Visibility 10

This can be played with a visual impairment with no issues there are no colour-coded elements that will cause issues for a colour-blind players.

Audibility 10
all conversations in the cutscenes and over codec are subtitled, so you can understand what's going on in-game.

Mobility 11
This particular version of the game can be played with a keyboard and mouse or a controller. Both of which can be completely customised to suit your impairments, so if you are looking to revisit this classic, get the version on GOG.

Gameplay 10
This game is very good fun to play the story is exciting with the occasional fourth wall break. (LOOKING AT YOU PSYCHO MANTIS)  feeling as though it's from a Clancy novel the stealth mechanics were revolutionary at the time. Any enemy you see, his cone of vision is displayed on the radar. Guards will react to sounds such as footsteps on metal and water, and footprints in the snow.

In summary, Metal Gear Solid is a timeless classic in its own right. It is good to see it re-released on GOG, so people from younger generations can experience the story we sank countless hours into in the pre-internet era!  If you are a nostalgia-junkie, but on a tight budget, saving for a next-gen system, this game can keep you occupied for hours. Better still there's a lot of replay value as the game needs to be completed multiple times in order to get everything unlocked, like Stealth camo and a tuxedo (the closest thing to a Bond game we'll see in years.

OVERALL SCORE- 102.5%
