Hey everyone!
today I am back in R-Cade in Saltmarket Street to review a throwback to the Saturn Era, and the last Sonic game to be released for the Mega Drive to review a game that was "Highly Underrated" (Androo's words, not mine!)
the question is.... is he right?
i'll the the judge, Jury and the exceutioner of that!
in any case, let's find out!
as I have said in the introduction of this review, I am in R-Cade, after finding out that i passed one of my exams in University
[Insert Final Fantasy Victory Fanfare here]
when pondering which game I should review this time around, Androo suggested Sonic R!
of course her colleague, Michelle firmly rejected that suggestion can't say i blame her
after around 5 minuites of debate, they reached a compromise. This game.
so, shout-out to Michelle for requesting this game.
originally released in 1996 for the Mega Drive, later ported to the Saturn later that year. In this game, Dr Egg...er Robotnik is at it again. This time he captured the Flickies in an alternate dimension he traveled to using a warp ring see Kenzie, Warp Rings were a thing!
you play as the spiky, blue blur himself to fiind the Flickies, save them. then kick Robotnik's butt again.
here comes those accessibility scores:
Visibility 10
ththis game has no color coded elements that impacts colorblind players. You should have no problems playing this game
Audibilitty 10
due to the memory limitation of a standard Mega Drive Cartridge, there are no spoken dialogue, the introduction in text-based, so no subtitles are required
Mobility 8
control wise movement feels a little clunky. The MegaDrive controller is a klittle on the ysmall side for an isometric 3D game. The Sega Saturn controller, on the other hand, feels a lot better when playingv this game. Therfore the Saturn version is recommended. You can reverse the spin dash and jump buttons. With the limited amount of inputs both controllers have, it needed to be.
Gameplay 9
this game does get monotinous and repetitive after a while, defeat badnik, collect Flicky take the back to Warp Ring, moive on to next area, repeat until level exit is found, and act is complete. On the other hand, for a Mega Drive Game, this game is decent. Thev isomectric 3D style makes effective use of the Mega Drive's limited hardware capabilities that Konami did with Silent Hill (red my review for more info!
with reference with Androo's earlier statement. I think that's justified. the Sonic Community gave this game so much hate. I'm 7failing to see any sense of those criticisms. So I agree with Androo.
OVERALL SCORE 98.5 %
see you guys in the next review!
SpartanCommander1990 out!
P.S We would like to extend our condonencies to Androo, who came last place in his head-to-head challenge on Sonic Mania.
Roll out, Spartan Company!
I used to love playing Sonic 3D back in the day on the Mega Drive. I used to be fascinated by 3D and had no idea systems like the Saturn or PS1 were around.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised the game got such a high rating, since it was difficult to play even for me. :P
