ULTRAAAA COMBOOOOO!!
Will Fulgore outclass cloud and live up to his award name, or should Fulgore just run away like a little girl?
Let's find out!
Kenzie "EA Basher" Retro requested this review who, like me, invested their money into this collection of rare games. (Ba Dum Tiss)
This game is another 2d beat-em-up heavily influenced by Mortal Kombat. But more family oriented. You pick a fighter out a small roster, and immediately leap into battle against a series of opponents.
The accessibility scores are as follows.
Visibility - 8
This game is very accessible, the characters are easily recognizable. But, if duplicate characters are used, it can be difficult to distinguish who's playing as what character since a significant way of telling the characters apart is by color.
And there's no colorblind mode to fall back to!
Audibility - 10
There's no spoken dialogue in the game, apart from the announcer. So no significant subtitles are required apart from phrases like "Supreme Victory," which are subtitled technically speaking.
Mobility - 10
Although there are no customisable controls, the controls are pretty simple. If you have played any retro fighters (Street Fighter 2 and MORTAL KOMBATTT!!) you will find these very familiar, with the exception of combo attacks, including the famous ULTRAAA COMBOOOO!!! (Every fighter in the game has one of these). If you practice long enough, you'll be able to pull these off with the greatest of ease.
Gameplay - 8
This game is very fun and addictive to play, especially when you have a friend round to play against you. But, an online mode is non-existent. On the other hand, online play in this particular era (Mid to late 90s) was impossible on consoles. So marking this game down any further would be a C-C-C COMBO BREAKER. But, this is where the criticism comes into play.
After a while of playing this game, the gameplay can become stale and repetitive.
Overall Score - 90%
Overall, this game is like mortal kombat, but without the blood (Insert Genesis Blood Code here - SNES fans you have my sympathy) but the lack of a colorblind mode and lack of decent replay value (Insert Xbox One Collection Joke here) drags the score right down.
Square Enix lives to fight another day with a Death Blow. (Insert Chocobo Joke here)
