review of Portal (requested by Emma Hall)

this time i review  one of Emma's favourite game. I understand that I have reviewed the Orange Box. But there's a lot more to say about this game because there's three Half Life games in the Orange Box, so we decided to give this game some much needed attention.

Like I said in my review of the Orange Box, Portal break the barrier between puzzle and the ever popular FPS (First Person Shooter) genres. You play as Chell a research specimen at Aperture Science, which was a rival of the Black Mesa research Corp founded by Doug Rattmann ( for more info, check out my Halloween special, my top 20 gaming creepypastas) you guide Chell through the science facilities' various complex and  twisted test chambers,  as you wield your trusty portal gun guided by the research facilities AI, Glados The accessibility scores are as follows-

visibility 10
although there is no colourblind mode there's no need for one, the colour scheme used in portals are blue and orange, which is contrastng enough to cater the majority of colorblind players. also  the puzzles use this colour scheme. Blue indicates that there's something that needs doing in order to progress through the game. A dotted trail should give you a clue about what needs to be done. als monitors which are located throughout the test chamber also gives you anothother indication that the puzzles have been completed by a tick or a cross. So  this game should be accessible to colour blind players.

audibility 10

there's in game subtitles throughout the game,  so you can understand what Glados is saying But she offers little help, but adds humour to the gameplay experience with phrases such as " the floor will kill you, try to avoid it" and "this test chamber is impossible, please make no attempt to solve it."

Mobility 10

you can redefine the controls to suit your impairments which is a mobility impaired player's best friend and there's gamepad support so if keyboard and mouse doesn't suit you can just plug in your trusty Xbox 360 controller, and you're good to go!  you can redefine the controls with the gamepad too!

Gameplay 10

This game is unique in it's own right blending puzzle games with FPS games, which is to be honest, a breath of fresh air from your Battlefields you Call of Dutys, there's no multiplayer modes, but there's a bonus time trial mode, which adds a lot of replay value to the game. In summary this game is a great accessible game, which should keep us entertained until 2025 when Valve FINALLY  gives us Half Life 3!

OVERALL SCORE 100%

another Ultra Combo!  this could be a  Fulgore award nominee!
