Review of South Park Snow Day (PS5, Switch Series X/S)

Hey, everyone! For Easter, we are having to the small, snowy town of South Park North Colorado to look at one of the successors of the stick of truth. Is this game worthy of remembrance, like its predecessor? Or is this game as bad as South Park 64?

Let's find out!

South Park is one of the most recognisable adult cartoon TV series to date, the first episode of the franchise was aired on August 13, 1997. Since then, the franchises while the most recognisable icons in American TV to date, the franchise had already in the big screen will South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, released in cinemas in 1999.

Of course, with all highly popular TV series, videogame spin-offs were inevitable. Some of the most notable titles of this would be South Park the stick of truth, and South Park the fractured Butt Hole. Last week, the newest and videogames spin-off of South Park was released.

The story is set after the Stick of Truth and in the fictional town of South Park Colorado, an intense blizzard is rocking the town, and all schools in the area have to be closed. Of course, Cartman decided to take full advantage of the unexpected day off, including the new kid, the game's protagonist, to go outside and play.

Of course, everyone decided to continue with the mediaeval fantasy game which started during the events of the Stick of Truth. Of course, the war between humans and Drow Elves, led by Kyle, is preparing to launch a massive attack on the Kingdom of Kupa Keep. It is up to you to fight your way through the various levels of the game and discover the truth of the mysterious weather phenomena that is currently rocking the town.

The accessibility scores are as follows –

Visibility 10

there are colourblind modes which can be changed in the accessibility section of the options menu also, in levels teammates are represented by numbers, these numbers will appear above your teammates' heads so, you will know who, and where that particular teammate is. So, a player with a visual impairment tribute to play this game with very minimal issues.

Audibility 11

There are subtitles which can be enabled, and disabled in the options menu. Better still, you can customise whichever size of subtitles you want. This allows a player with a visual impairment to read the text and subtitles without the risk of gaining any eye strain while reading them So, a player with a visual impairment will be able to play this game with no issues whatsoever.

Mobility 8

In the PC version, which is used to test it, keyboard, and mouse controls can be fully customised to suit the players' impairments. However, when using a gamepad, the controls are very hard to use. There is no legacy stick layout available in this game. Which can render the console version completely inaccessible for a player with a mobility impairment. So, a player with a mobility impairment will find it very tricky to play the console version, but the PC version is very playable.

Gameplay 9

This game sufferer is the exact same problem that Turtle  Rock Studios shooter, Back 4 Blood suffered. The game is too reliant on cooperative play. When you are playing alone, the game feels a little lacklustre, as your AI teammates help you progress, but it doesn't have the exact same experience when you are playing with other players, or your friends online.

The mechanics themselves take a leaf from the Warriors series, for the majority of the game, you will be constantly pressing the standard attack button as you fight your way through levels.

However, there are some RPG elements added to the game which make this game stand out, for example you can enhance, or change abilities while in Kupa Keep, mixed in with a whole new mechanic which shakes the game up a bit, and that is the bull[censored] card system.

Before a campaign begins, you can select special cards with various effects, for example, making your opponent's weapons weaker, instantly resurrecting teammates, and so forth, which can be printed to play at any time. On the other hand, the enemy can do the same, making each campaign run truly unique.

In summary, South Park Snow Day is a fairly good Co-op hack-and-slash game, its unique mechanics stand out, but it doesn't exactly fill the large shoes in which the stick of truth left. The game is somewhat short, this story is roughly the length of Halo three ODST's campaign.

But, for its relatively cheap price on Steam, the length of the game is somewhat justified, you will be getting your money's worth with this game. So, if you are looking for a bite-size action game to play over the summer, and on a study break, this game could be a good choice.

OVERALL SCORE 95%
