TAILS OF TAPE PART 4- NO MERCY FOR THE SHARPSHOOTER

(best enjoyed with headphones on!)

Hey, everyone! We are officially back on the air! Welcome to Tails of the Tape! As two of my friends battle it out over who has the better taste in wrestling games.

Last time, we went through Ian "The Sharpshooter" Harvey's picks, which scored  82.5%

Now, without further ado, let's introduce our second contender.

This time, he wants to fight fire with fire as he picked yet, another classic from the N64 library. Does this game score enough to go one up on The Sharpshooter.

Let's find out!

During the turn of the millennium, the year 2000, we survived the data analysts' version of Armageddon, Y2K, Anne Robinson was installing fear into contestants' heads, as the first episode of the weakest link was broadcast on August 14.

in terms of gaming, Nintendo's, and the world's first 64-bit console, the N64 was the king of consoles. And, this classic got released.

The developers went from success to success, starting from  WCW VS NWO World Tour, released in 1997.

The premise of this game is simple. You pick a wrestler from a roster of superstars, which are deemed as icons nowadays, and battle your way to championship success.

The accessibility scores are as follows –

Visibility 10

Each superstar has  4 additional outfits, which can be changed using the C buttons on the controller. This evens out the battlefield for a player with a visual impairment.

Audibility 10

There is no spoken dialogue in this game, with the exception of referee call-outs. These are displayed in the centre of the screen. So a player with a hearing impairment should be able to play this game with no issues.

Mobility  7.5

The controls can be customised via the games options menu. This will allow a mobility-impaired player to tailor the controls to suit his, or her impairments.

This could be a vital lifeline, as an N64 controller will be very difficult to use for a player with certain mobility impairments.

So, apart from the sheer size of an N64 controller, this game is easily playable for a player with mobility impairments.

Gameplay 9.5

This game feels like an upgraded version of the original games of the series i.e WCWE vs NWO Revenge. In exhibition mode, there are a lot more match types, when in comparison with Revenge.

For example, you can participate in cage matches, special guest referee or Ironman matches. Although that gameplay-wise, it is extremely similar to Revenge, however, additional unlockables, for example, additional superstars, like, Cactus Jack can be unlocked via the games Smackdown Mall.

Certain people in the community branded this title as a (his words, not mine!) " Carbon copy". I would somewhat agree with that statement.

Yes, it might be running on the same engine, therefore, using the same graphics. But, the N64 is running on a 93.75 MHz processor. So, therefore, using the same engine would probably be the best way to make use of that hardware's limited capabilities.

Also, the game is from the exact same developer. So, there would be more or less expected for them to use the same assets, for example, engines.

In summary, WWF No Mercy is an excellent successor to the classic N64 wrestling games, for example, Revenge. The developer has taken what's good about Revenge while adding new features to make the game feel fresh. I would highly recommend this game to an N64 wrestling enthusiast.

OVERALL SCORE 92.5%

See you guys in the climatic finale, as I take a look at Fire Pro Wrestling, and the champion announced!
