Review of Samurai Showdown 5 (various formats)

Hey, everyone! This week I review a classic fighting game from the SNK library.

can Haomaru defeat Isaac in single combat?  or is he going to get gunned down?

Let's find out!

this review is a follow up to my previous review of King of Fighters XV I have posted a few weeks ago

the person who both bout me a copy of the game and asked me to review it wants more SNK  reviews. When the NEOGEO collection was discounted on Xbox, he took advantage of this and  asked me to review the perfected version of one of the games of his childhood

. But, hey, I digress. Most get on with this!

As I have said in a previous review of King of Fighters, SNK is one of the world's biggest fighting game developers, alongside Bandai NAMCO, and Capcom. Apart from of course, Metal Slug, as a side-scrolling tank shooter, SNK has been responsible for the development of numerous fighting game franchises. Samurai showdown is one of them.

This game differs from the traditional fighting games as it is weapons-based, in the same vein as the Soul Calibur series. You pick a character from a roster of a grand total of 28 characters, and enter the heat of battle!

The access ability scores are as follows –

Visibility  7.5

There are flying colour variations per character, these can be selected by pressing each one of the four face buttons, and the start button. So, you can pick whichever colour is suitable to your impairments.

However, there is a major problem when playing this game. When the player has photosensitive epilepsy. Each and every time I character takes ahead, the screen flashes red. This can be a major problem as screen flashes can physically induce a seizure. To make matters worse, there is no way to disable them.

So, although the game can be playable for a player with a visual impairment, this game can be playable for a player who has photosensitive epilepsy. If you wish to do so, please ensure that you are playing in a well-lit environment.

Audibility 10

once again, SNK takes things back to its arcade roots, there is little to no spoken dialogue in this game (it's in Japanese, anyway!) Is subtitles, or displayed on the screen. So, a player with a hearing impairment should be able to play this game with no issues.

Mobility 11

in the NEOGEO collection, which we used to test this game, the controls can be fully redefined to suit your impairments. This is extremely important in fighting games as a single frame input can bridge the gap between victory and defeat. So, customisable controls is a must for all fighting games across the board.

Gameplay 9.5

first off, with the negatives. There is only arcade mode available for single-player enthusiasts. But, in fighting games, as the multiplayer is where it's at.

. This particular version of the game has roll back net code.

To all the people in the community who are unfamiliar with what roll back net code is, more back net code is a  way of dealing with your network connection during the multiplayer match by predicting which input, a player would make, by memorising your play style through machine learning.

In summary, Samurai Showdown V Perfect is a real blast from the past by replicating the classic graphics from the NEOGEO days, while adding in elements that is, in my opinion, is sensual for a fighting game, for example, roll back net code

If you are a fighting game enthusiast, who is in need of eight nostalgia fix, this game is highly recommended!
