Review of Dead Space 2(Various formats(PC, PS4, PC, Xbox 360/BC)

"In Space, no one can hear you scream.,... Welcome back to Spooktober, this week, I take a look at EA's trademark horror game (and resolve an argument with my friend group on Xbox!)  does Isaac have what it takes to escape the Necromorph insisted ship? Or should he sign his own death, warned now?

Let's find out!

(Best enjoyed with headphones on!)

Visceral Games' Dead Space series was one of the rising stars in the survival horror game sub-genre, taking inspiration directly from the world-famous Resident Evil the game is set in space you play as Isaac Clarke who has survived the events of the first game who finds himself in a psychiatric on a space station orbiting one of Jupiter's moons, Titan, which, suddenly was caught in the middle of an outbreak of mutated, reanimated corpses, the Necromorphs, it is up to you to continue outbreak, and stop the Neromorphs from spreading any further.

The access ability scores are as follows –

Visibility 10.5
First off, with the negatives, there are no colourblind modes available, but the game is colourblind friendly enough as is. This game has no health meter. Instead, you are relying on a light that is shown to the back of your suit, known as your RIG, turquoise would mean that as it is at full health, red indicates that Isaac is close to dying.

This means that I colourblind player can keep tabs on how healthy Isaac is at any point in the game. Also, when it comes to doors when the door is locked, the door's interaction prompted is in yellow, a text notification that appears in the middle of that prompt. So, a player with a visual impairment will find it somewhat easy to play.

Audibility 10
This game has in-game subtitles which can be activated, and deactivated via the games options menu, so a player with a hearing impairment should be able to understand what's going on as the story progresses.

Mobility 5
This game is extremely difficult to play for a player with a mobility impairment. The mouse and keyboard controls can be fully customised, but, there are certain actions, for example, Sprint that cant is redefined to a mouse button. There is controller support available for this game, but, there is no legacy stick layouts available. It's more playable than the original entry of the series,  but mobility-impaired players will find it quite difficult to play this game, so you might want to give this game a miss.

Gameplay  7
Although that the Dead Space series may not be the scariest game that I have ever played, it still is a fairly decent game. The game's reliance on action, rather than actual horror is a setback, at best. The deep-space setting adds to the feeling of loneliness and isolation that the majority of survival horror games on the market is built upon.

The atmosphere created during the game is somewhat unsettling, but the game's reliance on jump scares is somewhat cliched from games such as the Alien series, as it ruins the feeling that a horror game experience should be built on.

in summary, Dead Space 2 is not exactly the best horror game that I have played. As I have said before, the game's reliance on action than horror makes the game repetitive as you fight your way through the various environments that you will encounter when playing this game.

However, the game's dismemberment mechanics makes this game stand out from the crowd. Instead of simply shooting an enemy, you have to target specific locations on the enemy's body to cause damage. With this game being available on EA play, which is included in your  Game Pass Ultimate membership, at least try this game before you knock it.

OVERALL SCORE 81.25%
