Review of Power Rangers Battle for the Grid(Various formats)

This week I review Game Pass' latest offering to the Fighting Game Community, based on the popular kid's TV  superhero action TV series of the 90s,  can this game brawl its way to the top of the Summer of Game Pass Rankings? or should they stay in the 90s?

Without further ado, IT'S MORPHIN' TIME!

(best enjoyed with headphones on!)

Power Rangers was one of the biggest icons of children's television in the 90s. The franchise debuted on August 28, 1993, produced by Saban entertainment, this was a big factor in the successful launch of the Fox Kids programming block, the success of the franchise, allowed it to become integrated into popular culture as of today, the franchise consists of 28, television seasons, 21 themed series, and three movies adaptations, released in 1985, 1987 and 2017, respectively.

This game. In particular, has released in 2019 for the PlayStation four, Xbox One and Nintendo switch. The game in particular is set in an alternate universe detach from the main cannon. Lord Drakkon, an alternate, tyrannical version of Tommy Oliver, the Green Ranger seeks to control the morphing Grid while defeating Rangers from the various timelines of the Canon. It is up to you to fight back against this tyrannical menace and set everything right.

The accessibility scores are as follows –

Visibility 10

There are only two colour combinations available per character, but, there are six outfits per character. So, you'll be able to tailor the colour and outfit combinations of each character to see your impairments, before jumping into battle. So, a visually impaired player will find no issues when playing this game

Audibity 9

Although there is no subtitle function in the options menu, and sorry mode,  there are subtitles present in the Scenes, and any pre-fight dialogue is text-based. During actual matches the dialogue that is said in matches is unimportant, in a highly competitive environment, additional subtitles which can appear on screen can be distracting to other players.

So, despite the shortfalls, this game is very easily playable with a player with a hearing impairment.

Mobility 11

As par for the course for a fighting game, the controls can be completely customised to suit your impairments. In a highly competitive environment where a single button input can bridge the gap between victory and defeat, this is a lifeline for a player with a mobility impairment.

Gameplay 11

This is a more advanced version of the bog-standard tag fighter. The input Windows for combos is less forgiving, this game focuses a lot less on air combos, which makes the game more challenging, as your opponent is more vulnerable while in the air. The character roster is very extensive. From classic, fan favourite characters such as Jason Lee Scott, the red Ranger Kimberly Hart, the Pink Ranger to cameos. For example, Ryu and Chun-Li from Capcom's famous Streetfighter series.

In summary, power Rangers battle for the grid is a breath of fresh air. The boots on the ground style of play deviate from the norm. However, the majority of mechanics, you would normally see in a tag fighter, such as assists, and tagging is still there. Please check out our review of ultimate Marvel versus Capcom three. For more information about these mechanics. This game is currently on Xbox game pass, so, if you are a fighting game enthusiast, don't knock it till you tried it!

OVERALL SCORE 102.5%

See you guys in the next review!
