Review of Mass Effect Legendary Edition((PC, Xbox One, PS4)

Hey, everyone! This week, I review the remasters of the game series that defined the WRPG subgenre, and the Xbox 360 generation. Is this game is good as if not, better than their original releases? Or is this just another cut and dry case of a botched remaster, like WarCraft 3: Reforged?

Let's find out!

(Best enjoyed with headphones on!)

Edmonton-based developer, Bioware has been the Titans of the RPG sub-genre, the developer has many AAA franchises in their portfolio. These include Dragon Age, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, with an MMO spin-off, The Old Republic, Anthem (the less said about  the better!) And of course, Mass Effect.

The trilogy has been one of the most well-known RPG series of games of the Xbox 360 generation. The first entry of the series was released, exclusively to the Xbox 360 in 2007, later ported to the PC, and PS3. The second entry of the series, Mass Effect 2, was released three years later, in 2010. Two years later, the story came to an epic inclusion as Mass Effect 3 was released. Yesterday, a trilogy of remasters, the Legendary Edition was released.

You play as Cmdr Shepard, one of the Galactic Council's top agents, the spectres, a was up to you to travel the Galaxy, visiting various planets to stop a genocidal,  machine race from wiping out all sentient lifeforms in the Galaxy.

The accessibility scores are as follows

Visibility  7

Although there are no colourblind modes in all three games in the remastered trilogy, there is very little need for one. There are no colour-coded elements that will cause an issue for a colourblind player.

Audibility 11

There are subtitles present in all three games of the collection. Also, you can customise the size of the subtitles via the game's launcher. So, a visually impaired player can read the in-game subtitles without the risk of getting any eyestrain. So a visually impaired player should be able to play this game with very few issues.

Mobility 9

Let's start off with the negatives. In the console version, no legacy stick layout is present. Also, there are no all alternate or customisable control options available. To make matters worse, there are no mouse & keyboard support. So, if you're a mobility impaired player you might want to give the console version a miss.

The PC version is like night and day. The controls can be customised to the options menu when using a keyboard and mouse. To make things even sweeter, there is controller support available. Similar to Sea of Thieves controller input, and raw input from a mouse and keyboard can be used and a "co-pilot" fashion. For example, you can use the trusty mouse and keyboard that the on-foot sections, while using the controller for the decryption sections, and in mass effect's case, the driving sections when navigating the surface of planets.

Gameplay 11

Let's kick things off with a little confession, at first, I was a doubter . I honestly thought that Bioware would not create a remaster of all three games of the original Mass Effect trilogy. Obviously, I was wrong.

In terms of the gameplay itself. I am impressed.. The amount of work that the developers did when remastering the original Mass Effect is staggering. The graphics in the game is fully upgraded. This is probably due to a transition from Unreal Engine 3 to EA's patinated game engine, Frostbite 3. Seriously, even the details that's been added to the textures of a characters' face is like night and day, when contrasted  to the original Xbox 360 version. The additional mechanics that were added to later entries in the series, for example sprinting is also added.

On top of that, with all 40 pieces of DLC content included in the game, this game is of outstanding value for money. This,

Is probably the best way to experience the Mass Effect trilogy. Yes, it is extremely expensive, even with the discount with EA Play, included an Xbox Game Pass, with the sheer amount of content you are getting, I can guarantee you, it is worth every penny. Seriously, you'll be playing this game long into the fall.

In summary, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is a fine example of a remastered trilogy done right. Every single piece of content is available to you right out of the box. The amount of visual, and performance upgrades added to all three games makes the whole thing worthwhile.

I understand that the original versions of all three games are, indeed available for free as part of your EA play subscription, which are also backwards compatible on Xbox consoles, the amount of money you will be spending to buy all the DLC for each game by far outweigh the price of this package. To make this even better, every game contained in this collection can be played at a blistering hot 120 pfs if you are playing on Xbox series X. As I have said, the game is a little pricey, it is worth every penny.
