Review of King of Fighters XIII(Various formats)

Hey everyone! This week I review fighting game that recently hit Games with Gold. Does this game pull off a perfect round, or can Kyo Kusanagi not able to fight his way out of a wet paper bag?

Let's find out!

(Best enjoyed with headphones on!)

SNK's King of Fighter Series is one of the most recognisable series in the 2D fighter sub-genre. It has had entries in a plethora of systems' libraries, from SNK's patented NeoGeo consoles to the ill-fated Dreamcast, to the current generation of hardware.  The game is centred around a global Mixed Martial Arts Tournament called "The King of Fighters", set up by an unknown organization who seeks the power of Orochi.

It is up to our protagonist, Kyo Kusanagi to hunt down his attacker, Ash Crimson to avenge the events of the previous two games!

The accessibility scores are as follows:

Visibility 11

Similar to Killer Instinct, there are a load of colour combinations per character, but this game takes it one step further by allowing the colour combinations of each character to be fully customised. So, a visually impaired player should be able to play this game with no issues

Audibility 10
All dialogue is text-based before and after the fights (In Arcade mode) are all text-based, so imagination should fill in the banks. That's how it was when SNK  was at it's prime! So a playing this game with a hearing impairment should be a breeze!

Mobility 10
The controls can be fully customised to suit your impairments. In a highly competitive environment like fighting games, rebindable controls can even the odds. Depends on your skill level, I guess, so a mobility-impaired player can play this game with no issues

Gameplay 9
The game is very fun to play. The franchise's unique 3-man tag elements make it stands out from the crowd in a heavily congested genre. This game focuses on combo attacks. On the other hand, the game is not exactly beginner-friendly, if you are relatively new to FGs in general, Dragonball Fighterz might be a better choice as auto-combo is active by default, and Killer instinct as the same feature can be activated.

However, for fighting game veterans, who can explain OTG stands for,  can explain what a fuzzy guard break is and can perform pretzel motions in their sleep, this game should give you an adequate challenge, even the Arcade ladder is damn-near impossible.

In summary  King of Fighters XII is a very unique fighting game, SNK's trademark pedigree shows, although that is this game is not beginner-friendly like FighterZ, but if you are fairly affluent in fighting games, this game could be a good choice.

 OVERALL SCORE 75%

See you guys in the next review
