Review of Halo 4(PC, Xbox One-OPT S/X)

In November 2014, a collection of 4 Halo games was released for Microsoft's gaming system, the Xbox One. The game received the accolade as one of the worst videogame launches in recent history. Since then the collection has been through somewhat of a renaissance through various patches,  updates, additional games being added, and this year, the entire collection being ported to PC, co-developed by Ruffian Games, and Gears Tactics developer Splash Damage. Earlier this week, we reached the pinnacle of that. The final piece of the puzzle, Halo 4 has been released to the PC port of the Mater Cheif Collection. In this review, I will be giving my final verdict of the collection as a whole. The question is, how is this tale going to end? well, without further ado...

Let's find out!

Best enjoyed with headphones on!

Welcome to our first game that is enhanced for Microsoft's Next-Generation system, as you can tell, this game is running on an Xbox Series X,   and what better way to do this is to review a Halo game!

As I've said in the introduction this completes the collection of Halo games that PC gamers have been screaming out for years for!

Originally released in 2012 for the Xbox 360.

The story takes place 4 years after the events of Halo 3. Master Cheif defeated the Flood by firing The Ark. Master Cheif was in cryosleep, adrift by what's left of the UNSC frigate, Forward unto  Dawn. With the Cheif's trusty AI assistant, Cortana looking over him. But the ship came under attack by a rogue Covenant fleet. But it turned out that it wasn't Cheif's biggest problem.

An ancient race, the Prometheans came out of nowhere and Cortana goes into rampancy.

It is up to you to stop The he Didact's plan to wipe out humanity and save Cortana from rampancy. The accessibility scores are as follows:

Visibility 9

Like all games in the collection in the campaign, friendlies are represented by yellow dots on the motion tracker, enemies are represented by red dots in the motion tracker the arrows above or below the icon indicates where the allied or enemy solder is.

But, once again the main(but minor issue) still remains-  in Multiplayer the teams are red and blue. I understand that red & Blue are not hardest hit when it comes to colourblind people it still needs addressing nonetheless.

Audibility 11

Well, guys, 343 finally got the message- they added subtitle support for All six games of the collection!  ( took them long enough, but better that than never, also text-to-speech mode can still be enabled please check out our reviews of Halo Combat Evolved, 2:Anniversary and 3 for more information about this feature!

Mobility 11

This game still retains the best features of the collection- controller support, along with the standard keyboard and mouse controls. If you've played Halo on a console before, the options are familiar to you with both stick and button layouts can be customised., the keys can be rebound to suit their impairments. So 343 has got the game's accessibility in terms of a mobility-impaired player pretty much nailed.

Gameplay 11

As I have said in the introduction of this review, the MCC has been a tale of redemption, from rags to riches and earlier on this week has been the pinnacle of this. Upon its launch, It's been deemed as one of the worst videogame launches of the industry(Surely WarCraft 3:Reforged's launch was worse than this!) with frequent multiplayer disconnects, two games, and various features missing from the collection.

Since then, through patches fixing issues with matchmaking & Multiplayer, Halo 3 ODST, later Reach being added on the collection, with their respective firefight modes,  I have been following this collection's journey to PC, since Reach's release in December 2019, reviewing each and every game as and when they release.

One of the biggest features of  Halo 4's launch is cross-play. It seems like 343 wasn't [Elite chatter] around when it was added. You can change matchmaking settings to be matched with players who use controllers or the trusty Keyboard and Mouse, this is the best thing to happen to the community in recent memory.

This means that I can play with anyone, like  Kenzie"N7" Retro and  Tom "Summoner's Rift" Starkey, who has requested me to review halo 4's PC port in the first place even though we're technically using different systems (I'm the one who is rocking with a Series X, Tom's on PC, and Kenzie's on a One S. But hey, that's beside the point!)

. Another big Halo 4's launch feature is that the collection has received optimisations for Xbox Series X and S consoles. This means that console players can enjoy that sweet 4K  resolution on a console, with framerates up to a buttery smooth 120fps  This was seen as unheard of by the PC gaming Community( ah well, so much for "PC gaming master race, eh, Tom and Robert!)

In Summary Halo 4 completes the Master Cheif Collection in the best way possible.

Has this game fully redeemed itself from its failure at launch? short answer- HELL YES!!

Not only they have brought PC players back to the Halo franchise by porting all games to Steam, Microsoft Store, and Xbox Game Pass for both console and PC. Matter of fact, they have overtaken VaLVe Corp's Orange Box my a mile. With six games, including all their respective DLCV maps for £29.99, you'll feel as though you just threw a brick at the shop's window and looted the damn place! It's going to take you until New Year to get through half the collection alone! and the multiplayer itself brings endless content to the game!

This game is available on GamePass for both PC and console. If you've yet to play the Halo series yet. You owe it to yourself to do so. (Please note this statement does not include Halo 5)

OVERALL SCORE 105%

See you guys in the next review!
