Review of 8-Bit Hordes(PC) UPDATED!

Okay guys!
Once again, an actual game developer has approached me for a review of the game they developed! (no pressure though!) but is this game a Starcraft killer?

Let's find out!

okay....... firstly Robert Baker (Rollcage Redux) now...... former Westwood Studios developers, Petroglyph. The studio behind Command and Conquer, Universe at War and Star Wars Empire at War.
It is no big secret that I love a good RTS (Real Time Strategy) game! like Dawn of War, Command and Conquer and, of course StarCraft.

In this game you pick a side from two factions the Light Bringers(humans) and the Death Sworn (Orcs) and annihilate your opponents!

the acessibility scores are as follows

visibility 10

when in skirmish mode, you can set player colors in the skirmish set-up screen, so you can tell which player controls what unit, also the color of his or her health bars are based on diplomacy toward you, green for your units, turquoise for allied units and dark red for enemies, so a color blind friendly mode is there by default, but a little more work on making this scheme wouldn't go amiss!

audibility 0

there are no on screen notifications for critical  events like when your or an allies base comes under attack, so hearing impaired players will have major  issues when playing this game.

UPDATE: Petroglyph has implemented a patch that enables subtitles   for voice-based notifications to the top-center of the screen, in white font, which is more noticeable than the top-left screen position,  the red font and small size of Starcraft 2's    YES, YOUR READ THAT RIGHT 8-BIT HORDES/ARMIES  IS NOW MORE ACCESSIBLE THAN STARCRAFT 2! IN YO FACE BLIZZARD!

so the score in the visibility category is now receiving an upgrade to a 10

mobility 10

the game is controlled by the mouse left click selects and de-selects units, base building and unit production is done by a sidebar and the left mouse button, right click gives the selected units orders, and if you want to use hotkeys, you can redefine the, so  mobility impaired players will have no issues with this game.

Gameplay 10

if you're into RTS games you're in for a treat, a real throwback from the genre's glory days of the 90s and early 2000s, in short, it's a mashup between the intense battles and fast paced action of Command and Conquer, the unique blocky retro-style  texture design of Minecraft and the medieval/fantasy style of Warcraft, when you own 8-bit armies, all the maps, factions gets integrated right into 8-bit Hordes which cranks up the craziness to a level of, as Vegeta wouldn't put it

anyway, if you have 8-Bit Armies, it plays like an expansion, buy a pretty damn good game nonetheless, the campaign adds a lot of lifespan, and the online modes makes it a lot more competitive...
OVERALL SCORE 75%

UPDATED SCORE (20/08/2016) 100%

the Light Bringers just enden Sans' and Undertale's reign of terror!

P.S if you are reading this Petroglyph, i have purchased the soundtracks to both 8 Bit Hordes and 8-Bit armies!

see you guys in the next review!

segafan1990 out!
